A stay of execution was upheld by the Montana Supreme Court for Ronald Smith, the only Canadian on death row in the United States. Smith, a 53-year-old originally from Red Deer, Alberta, was convicted in 1983 for the 1982 murders of two young Montana men. Lawyer Greg Jackson said it was good news, but not unexpected.
