Five senior Toronto Humane Society officials, including president Tim Trow, and the board of directors were arrested and charged with cruelty to animals after the Toronto location was raided November 26th by Ontario SPCA officials and Toronto police. OSPCA officials said animals were allegedly left to suffer and die in their cages. OSPCA lawyer Christopher Avery, said the animals were in an awful state. (The OSPCA described the Toronto shelter as a "house of horrors," and offered tours to the media during an ongoing investigation, displaying a mummified cat they said they found on the premises.)
