A Supreme Court of Canada decision meant the veil could be lifted on a sweeping publication ban in the Tori Stafford murder case. It finally allowed media to report on partial proceedings of the April 30th court appearance by Terri-Lynne McClintic in which she pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of the Grade 3 Woodstock, Ontario, student. Some details remained under publication ban to preserve co-accused Michael Rafferty's rights to a fair trial, which was not expected to get underway until 2012. Victoria Stafford's father said when the news of a guilty plea in his daughter's murder became public, it was one of the worst days he ever experienced. (The actual plea came on April 30th, when Tori's family sat in court and listened to the horrible facts about the day the eight-year-old was abducted and murdered by multiple blunt force impacts.)
