Release Date: 8th September 2017
One of the greatest contemporary indie-rock bands return with their 7th studio album and the follow-up to 2013's Trouble Will Find Me. The record was recorded at the Long Pond studio in Hudson Valley NY of The National's Aaron Dessner who also oversaw the production of the record with additional production but his fellow band members Matt Berninger and Bryce Dessner (yes his twin brother). Sleep Well Beast sees the band pushing the boundaries of who they are whilst blurring the line between the usually relatively restrained and meticulous band we hear on record compared to their looser more manic live performances. It has all the classic elements of a National record you would want - beautiful piano arrangements clever wry lyrics from Berninger delivered with his unique croon an expansive but intricate rhythm-section all wrapped up in an Americana soaked indie-rock - yet the record features the most use of electronica we've seen from the band and is at turns both the band's most and least guitar-centric to-date. All this adds up to something rather special which will no doubt hugely satisfy those who already love the band but will also gain the band more even more fans along the way.
